The passionate fans of Stargate Universe have long been yearning for a continuation of the show, and now there might be a glimmer of hope. Two beloved cast members, Robert Carlyle and Brian J. Smith, recently shared their enthusiasm for revisiting the story of Stargate Universe Destiny and her intrepid crew if MGM can find a way to make it happen.
It has been 12 years since Stargate Universe was abruptly canceled after just two seasons, leaving fans with an unresolved narrative. As the Stargate franchise undergoes deliberations with its new owner, Amazon, many devoted fans are eagerly anticipating some form of continuation. Whether it's a third season of SGU or a captivating movie or mini-series to tie up loose ends, the desire for closure is palpable among the fan base.

For Smith, Stargate marked a pivotal moment in his life. He reflected on the impact of the show, saying, "It was huge for me. Stargate was the first time I really had some solidity in my life. I was able to pay off my student loans. It kind of made me feel like an adult for the first time in my life."
Smith also expressed excitement about the potential of revisiting the series, remarking, "We're still cryogenically frozen on the Destiny, on that space ship somewhere out there in the cosmos! It's kind of teed up for someone to do a movie or something where we can finish off that story. It'd be really fascinating to revisit it after all these years." He eagerly expressed his desire to return, emphasizing the vast possibilities within the Stargate franchise and his curiosity about its future.
Currently promoting his new limited series, Class of '09, Smith showcased his versatility in a suspense thriller that explores the profound impact of artificial intelligence on the criminal justice system. Nevertheless, he remains open to the prospect of returning to the Stargate universe, should the opportunity arise.

Carlyle, too, conveyed his fondness for Stargate Universe and hinted at his willingness to portray Dr. Nicholas Rush once again. Despite his skepticism about the show's revival, he acknowledged that in the world of entertainment, one should never say never. Reflecting on the series' untimely cancellation during MGM's bankruptcy declaration in 2010, he described it as unfortunate. However, he also recognized the perfect setup for a revival, with the characters suspended in an intriguing state of limbo aboard the Destiny.
"They're still up there in the sky, floating around on that ship," Carlyle mused. "Whether someone takes it to bring them down to earth again, who knows."
Carlyle has recently embarked on a new venture with a television adaptation of his classic film, The Fully Monty. While he remains uncertain about the fate of Stargate Universe, his willingness to reprise his role as Dr. Rush undoubtedly excites fans who continue to hold out hope for the show's resurrection.
